The IARU Region 3 Newsletter Issue 6 April to June 2007, Released July 2007 The main area of concern for the Region is the preparation towards WRC 2007 which would be of vital interest to amateurs worldwide. It was felt that the Region should be represented at as many fora as possible so that our views and requirements are kept in perspective and made known as widely as possible. In this issue of the newsletter information is given on the meetings at which our directors and also a former director attended. The R3 secretary and joint secretary were also part of other delegations and so our views and concerns have been put forth. >>> ABU Preparatory Seminar WRC 2007 <<< Keeping in mind the importance of representation at all meetings leading to WRC07, the Directors co-opted 9V1UV Selva to attend the ABU Preparatory Seminar WRC 2007 in Kuala Lumpur on behalf of IARU R3 from 11th to 13th June 2007. There has been much appreciation on Selva's presentation and presence at the meeting. R3 is giving great importance to preparations for the WRC as there are many items of vital interest to amateurs to be decided. >>> WRC 07 Geneva <<< Director Peter Lake will be a part of the New Zealand delegation to WRC 07 and many others from R3 will also be there, so it is expected that the interests of amateur radio will be well represented. >>> APG meeting in Busan, South Korea 16th to 21 July <<< This meeting, the last before WRC 07, is a very important meeting and R3 will be represented by Director Peter Lake, Shizuo Endo and some other directors will be part of their national delegations. All societies have been requested to lobby with their respective administrations on the various items that concern amateur radio and it is expected that responses will be received by the secretariat in time for the meeting. >>> IARU Administrative Council meeting in Boston <<< Michael Owen VK3KI and Joong-Geun Rhee, HL1AQQ attended the IARU Administrative Council meeting in Boston on 14 and 15 May 2007 on behalf of R3. >>> IARU HF World Championship <<< The annual IARU HF World Championship is held over the second full weekend of July. This year it will be held during the 24-hour period from 1200 UTC Saturday, 14 July to 1200 UTC Sunday, 15 July. Rules are at www.iaru.org/contest.html >>> 7th World HST Championship <<< 7th World HST Championship will be held in Belgrade Serbia September 19-23rd. Full details available at www.hst2007.org >>> Hong Kong Special Prefix <<< Approval has been granted for the use of the Special Prefix "VR10" in addition to "VR2" for Hong Kong Radio Amateurs starting from July One 2007 to the 30th of June 2008 for the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's reunification with China. >>> Jamboree on the Air <<< This year's 50th JOTA will run from October 19th at 22:00 hours to October 21st at 24:00 hours, YOUR local time. An official start will be given by the World Scout Bureau radio station in Geneva, Switzerland on October 19th at 21:00 h UTC with a transmission in the 20 and 80 meter bands, and on Echolink. >>> Seanet 2007 <<< Tony Waltham, HS0ZDX reports that the 35th Southeast Asia Net (SEANET) convention will take place in the northern Thai town of Lampang from November 8-11, 2007, hosted by the Radio Amateur Society of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King (RAST).Full details of the programme can be found at the SEANET 2007 website with details of the programme and an online registration form at http://www.sabah.net.my/seanet/seanet_2007.htm >>> 14th IARU R3 Conference Christchurch 12 - 16 October, 2009. <<< Though it is some time away, Terry Carrell ZL3QL Chairman of the organizing committee (Terry ZL3QL zl3ql@amsat.org ) reports that plans are well under way for the conference and details will follow. In the meantime if you would like to see something about Christchurch please take a look at http://www.christchurch.org.nz/ >>> NZART holds successful National Conference. <<< At the Annual NZART conference held in Palmerston North early June, Bruce Douglas ZL2WP commenced a second two-year term as President. Stewart Watchman ZL2TW was appointed Vice President. After much discussion NZART is to consider the possible introduction of a Foundation type license in New Zealand. New Zealand is proud of its very successful single license structure for radio amateur licensing however the success of the Foundation License in both the U.K. and Australia indicates their may be some advantage in adopting a suitable version.
