IARU REGION 3 MONITORING SYSTEMS NEWSLETTER. JANUARY 2001. The winter conditions have given good propagation and reception of fundamentals, harmonics and spurious signals from Broadcasters. Thus, those frequencies and countries frequently reported in these columns have been heard positively again. The very strong signals from Iran on 7070 kHz in the mornings and evenings are sporadic and peculiarly carry the jammer signals on the same frequency. The frequently identified word being "mujaahideen". There was the report on the Braoadcasts in Chinese from Taiwan on 7090 kHz from 1200-1800 UTC,in the first three days of the New Year. The station discontinued broadcasts from 4th, may be from its own learning of the mistake or from the fast complaints to the Broadcaster from Region 1. Region 3 MS Coordinator did send his request for help to the CTARL authorities who promised to look into it. News from Region 1: Reports IRIB Tehran on 7100 kHz from 1940- 2015 UTC.V o Broad Masses from Eritrea is also reported on this frequency. Spain and Netherlands reportreception of 12m CB type signals. The excellent work by OM Ron Roden on the web page of IARU Region 1,is a must for those interested in Monitoring Systems work. Please visit: www.iarumsr1.cwc.net News from Region 2: The SWBC Pyongyang,DPR Korea continues to be heard, along with those bubble jammers on 40mb. Various truckers, taxi cabs and Cbers are heard and the Mexican area gives enough QRM to UO-14,AO-27 and SUNSAT-36 in the VHF band. Mexican authorities are looking into the problem. General: There was an earthquake at 0316 UTC on 26th Morning in Gujarat state at 7.9 Richter scale. The memory of the Indian amateur is still fresh of the Orissa Super Cyclone havoc and the relief communication operations, and now this has come to test VU amateurs further. They are indeed standing up to face the challenge. Several amateurs from Bombay have already left to ahmedabad and further, with HF and VHF equipment for relief work. Watch the frequencies: 7035,7050,14135,14155,14160 and 14260 kHz. 73, de B.L.Manohar gArasuh VU2UR MS Coordinator of IARU Region 3.
